How Belts And Hoses Keep Your Car Running

Car belts and hosesHow many times have you gotten in your car and simply gone where you needed to go, never thinking about all the moving parts in your automobile that make it possible? Certainly, all of us have ignored the amount of engineering that has gone into making a car operate smoothly. Belts and hoses are some of the most overlooked parts in a car engine, yet they are essential to making sure that your car operates properly.

Coolant hoses do exactly what their name suggests: they cool the engine. This intricate system of hoses moves coolant fluid from your radiator to the hottest part of your engine and then returns the overheated fluids back to the radiator to begin the cycle again. The release of the heat through the radiator is what keeps your car from overheating. If even one of these hoses becomes leaky or deteriorates to the point where it cannot do it’s job well, then your car will become vulnerable to overheating issues. There is an easy way to avoid this problem. Simply take your car to your Akron area car mechanic and ask for a hose inspection. A qualified auto mechanic will be able to ascertain the condition of your hoses within just a few minutes. Any replacement of hoses that is needed is certainly less expensive than replacing the large systems that the hoses cool.

Belts are another simple automotive part that performs a myriad of jobs within your car’s engine. The most well know belts, the serpentine belts, run the pulleys that operates the steering pump, water pump, alternator and air pump. As you can imagine, if any of the serpentine belts are worn, comes loose or frays, then all of these critical systems will leave you stranded on the side of the road. Timing chains, another type of belt, are also important to your car’s performance. A timing chain makes sure that the engine valves open and close in synch. If the timing chain becomes loose or breaks, the engine piston’s and valves can collide, causing serious (and expensive!) engine damage. Belts, just like hoses, are easy to inspect. Visit your Cleveland auto repair shop and ask the technician to take a look at the condition of the serpentine belts and timing chain. A qualified auto mechanic will be able to easily let you know whether or not any of your belts need maintenance.
